Cooper Rush has made two emergency starts for the Cowboys in his career Jed Lowrie Jersey . Though he has a pair of wins, he's hardly a high-profile name.Here's everything you need to know about Dallas' current starting quarterback.Cooper Rush college statsRush was a backup at Central Michigan as a freshman, but it didn't long before he was thrust into a starting position. Cody Kater was injured at the start of the 2013 season and second-stringer Alex Niznak struggled in his first bit of action, leading to Rush's ascent with the Chippewas.His numbers as a freshman weren't eye-popping. He completed only 56.7 percent of his pa ses for 2,349 yards, 15 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. But he turned things around as a sophomore. He improved his completion percentage to 63.6, with 3,149 yards and an improved 27:13 touchdown-to-interception ratio.The next two years were much the same. As a junior, he completed 66.3 percent of his pa ses for 3,853 yards, 25 touchdowns and 11 picks. His completion percentage took a dip in 2016, his senior year, to 59.8 percent, but his other numbers remained steady. Luke McCown was signed to provide competition, but he was released after the preseason. Rush secured the third-string QB spot behind Prescott and Kellen Moore. Moore was eventually released during the season and Rush moved up to the backup role.Cowboys backupRush made his first appearance in an NFL game against the 49ers in the middle of a 40-10 blowout on Oct. 22, 2017. He completed 1 of 3 pa ses for 2 yards.Over the next two seasons, Rush remained the backup, but he did not attempt a pa s. He was cut by the Cowboys in 2020 after they signed Andy Dalton.Brief Giants tenureRush spent a short time with the Giants in the early part of the season but was cut in September 2020.Return to CowboysIt didn't take long for Rush to return to Dallas. He re-signed with the Cowboys' practice squad in November 2020.He didn't appear in a game for the Cowboys that year; Dalton handled the starting duties with Stephen Piscotty Jersey Prescott out for the season. But he did get a chance to start the next year.In Week 8, Prescott was ruled out with a calf injury, making Rush the starter against the Vikings. The Cowboys weren't able to get much going on offense during the first half. Rush threw his first career interception, and the offense scored just a field goal as Dallas fell behind 10-3. But on the third play of the second half, Rush found Cedrick Wilson for a 73-yard touchdown pa s, his first career pa sing touchdown. The two teams traded field goals in the third and the Vikings took Jose Canseco Jersey a 16-13 lead with 2:51 left. Rush marched the Cowboys down the field, completing 6 of 9 pa ses for 75 yards and a touchdown to Amari Cooper to give the Cowboys the lead and an eventual 20-16 win.MORE:Rush appeared in three more games the rest of the season. He finished the campaign with 422 pa sing yards, three touchdowns, one pick and a 63.8 completion percentage.Rush was cut by the Cowboys during the 2022 preseason but was immediately signed to the practice squad. When the season began, he was activated to the 53-man roster.It was a good thing the Cowboys brought him up. Prescott was hurt during the fourth quarter of the Cowboys' Week 1 clash with the Buccaneers, forcing Rush into the game. He completed 7 of 13 pa ses for 64 yards but was unable to mount a comeback in a 19-3 lo s.When Prescott's injury was deemed serious enough to keep him out for several weeks, Rush was back to being a starter. He began with a clash vs. the reigning AFC champion Bengals.Rush immediately drove the Cowboys down the field on the first drive of the game, capped by a 9-yard touchdown pa s to Noah Brown. The Cowboys scored another touchdown to end the first and tacked on two more field goals. The Bengals scored a field goal in the second quarter, but was kept quiet for much of the game. With the game tied and le s than a minute to play, Rush drove the offense to the Cincinnati 32, where Brett Maher drilled a walk-off 50-yard field goal to give Rush and the Cowboys the win.It appears likely Prescott will return to face the Eagles on Oct. 16, but Rush will still have chances to help keep the Cowboys in the playoff picture.
